About

What does it mean to be successful in Life? Financial security? Good family life? Plethora of friends? A strong relationship with God? Corporate executive? Big house on the corner? Physically fit?  Community servant? It’s easy to say YES to all of the above. Often times, I find that people (including myself) tend to choose to focus on one of these dimensions. Why is this, you might ask?  In reality, everything has tradeoffs and to excel in each of these dimensions takes time.  In the end, you only have 24hrs in a day.  So, if you focus on one, that means you are probably neglecting other areas.  For example,

  • If you strive to be an executive of a major corporation, you often have to work long hours and be away from your family on business trips. Being an executive means you will probably be financially secure. However, to get this position in life means you probably spend less time with your friends and family. Is this a successful life?
  •  If you strive to have a strong family life, you often make career decisions based on that. By slowing your growth in the corporate ladder, generally correlates to slower compensation growth. So, you might have less “extra” money for vacations, gifts, and bills.  Is this a successful life?

However, I want to be successful in all of these dimensions! I haven’t figured out how. I know that this won’t happen overnight. It’s going to be a life journey and I’m going to have to figure out how to balance my life in all of these dimensions.  I hoping through this blog it will help me articulate my thoughts, goals and dreams, as well as document my progress towards each dimension.  My hope is that the readers of this blog will pipe in and give me advice on how they have made steps to building a successful life because I’ve always been a big fan of learning from others success as well as mistakes.  The topics will range from personal finance, to family matters, to fatherhood, and much much more.
